1983 Volkswagen Beetle – Special Edition

It may not be the most famous of the Special Editions, but this Mexican built ‘Aubergine Beetle’ absolutely is one. We finally get to use the emoji legitimately. 😂🍆

This is one of only 3,300 produced in this colour. It also came with matching colour wheels, silver pinstripes, aubergine upholstery and head restraints, chrome wheel trims and a heated rear window setting it above standard production models at the time.

This car has been upgraded with a set of replica Gas Burner wheels but the originals are available if preferred. An adjustable front beam and dropped spindles have also been added to give the car a very purposeful stance and improved handling.

Coming out of long term ownership, the car has been well-maintained by local aircooled specialists with plenty of paperwork to back it up.

Most notably, in 2021 it had a fresh 1915 motor with twin Weber IDF carbs topping it off. There’s a full build sheet included but highlights are a C25 fast road cam, full flow oil system (machined), lightened flywheel and high torque starter. It gets along the road incredibly well and sounds great from the full-flow stainless CSP exhaust system. The motor has less than 4,000 miles on it.

As an older restoration it has held up pretty well and has been MOT’d every year since 2016. As demonstrated by recent MOT records, there are no issues with rust. Registered in the UK in 1986 but built 1983 it is now eligible for tax and MOT exemption.
